Young and Emerging Composers Competition

The Cleveland Chamber Symphony (CCS) is calling on young and emerging composers from Northeast Ohio to submit new music to be considered for an upcoming CCS Young and Emerging Composers Symposium to be held on May 16, 2008 at 3:00pm at the Cleveland Music School Settlement in University Circle in Cleveland.  The symposium will provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of participants’ works and other issues related to contemporary composition and performance.  CCS Music Director Steven Smith will be the symposium leader.  In addition to his career as a conductor, Mr. Smith is also an ASCAP award winning composer, and has received numerous performances and commissions throughout the country.  In 2008, he was named Ohio Composer of the Year by the Ohio Music Teachers Association.

Submitted scores will be reviewed by CCS music director Steven Smith.

Scores and CDs (MIDI acceptable) for public presentation at the symposium:

·       Must be received by May 4, 2009

·       May be any length in duration, however a smaller portion of  an extended work may be selected for presentation

·       May be written for any instrumentation, however all CDs must be accompanied by a written score
